CBA Records

Objective

The primary objective of the CBA in relation to records is to ensure that no false record claim is accepted into the record book, while doing everything possible to ensure that every true and adequately proven record is recognized.

Basis for a National Record

The holder of a Canadian record must be either a Canadian citizen or resident of Canada, and the holder of a Canadian pilot license. To be considered for a Canadian record, a flight will normally begin and/or end within the geographical boundaries of Canada, however the CBA record committee may consider flights made by Canadian pilots outside the geographical boundaries of Canada, at their discretion.

Classifications

Class A:

Free Balloons shall be divided into five sub-classes containing 15 categories according to size. The sub-classes are:
Sub-Class AA: Free balloons, not equipped with an airborne heater, which obtain buoyancy from a lighter-than-air gas, without pressurization of the envelope.
Sub-Class AX: Free balloons which obtain their buoyancy solely as a result of heating air. The envelope may contain no other gases other than air and the normal products of combustion.
Sub-Class AM: Free balloons which use both a lighter-than-air gas and an airborne heater, without pressurization of any envelope.
Sub-Class AS: Free balloons which use a lighter-than-air gas and are designed to allow sufficient pressurization of the envelope to substantially effect performance.
Sub-Class AT: Free balloons which do not fall into subclasses AA, AX, AM or AS

Class B:

Airships shall be divided into four sub-classes containing ten categories according to size. The sub-classes are:
Sub-Class BA: Airships which obtain at least 80% of their static lift from a lighter-than-air gas, and which are not included in subclass BR.
Sub-Class BX: Airships which obtain their static buoyancy solely as a result of heating air. The envelope may contain no other gases other than air and the normal products of combustion.
Sub-Class BR: Airships which obtain at least 80% of their static lift from a lighter-than-air gas, and in which the complete outer envelope is formed by a rigid framework.
Sub-Class BT: All other airships, including those in which more than 20% of the lift is obtained from the thrust of a power source.
